Room 02 · authenticity and forgery
Room 02. Is it real?
Это настоящее?
A forgery is betrayed by one detail that could not be there: a pigment from the wrong century in a painting, one wrong letter in an email address.

Vermeer ↔ phishing
The expert believed the fake Vermeer; chemistry did not. A phishing page copies a bank to the pixel, but the address gives it away. Read the whole address before typing a password.

Not a pipe ↔ not a bank
“This is not a pipe,” Magritte wrote under a pipe. A copy of a bank's screen is not a bank either. Reach your bank only through your own app or bookmark.

White paint ↔ deepfake
Beltracchi was caught by a white pigment that did not exist in 1914. A deepfake is betrayed by one impossible detail too. In doubt about a video? Find the original source.

Horse ↔ trojan
The Trojans dragged the horse inside themselves. A trojan is a program you run yourself because it looks like a gift. Never plug in a USB stick you found.

Prisoner ↔ “Mum, I'm in trouble”
The Spanish prisoner in 1898, the Nigerian letter in the 2000s, “Mum, I've had an accident” today: urgency, secrecy, a transfer. Call back on the number you already know.

X-ray ↔ hash
A museum checks a painting with X-ray, infrared, pigments and provenance. A file is checked with a hash, a signature, a certificate and metadata. Download software only from the official site.
Check 2 of 4
Compare the hash on today's card with the hashes under pictures A–D. Write the letter of the original.
The eye sees no difference; the hash does. One dot changes everything.
